We generally follow the Medford School District Calendar, therefore If Medford School District closes for a snow day or other extreme weather, we will also cancel school that day. However, our school operates outdoors throughout all the seasons and will not be cancelled unless safety becomes an issue. We also have our pacific geo-dome to escape the elements if the weather is just too windy or rainy.
The famous saying in the outdoor forest school model is, "there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear." When given the opportunity and appropriate clothing for the weather, children are amazingly resilient and very successful at outdoor school. In addition to the right gear, we ask that parents help us in preparing their children for the day by maintaining a positive attitude about the weather, starting the day with a filling breakfast and arriving on time. We have found that when the weather is particularly cold, the students take longer to transition in the mornings. Dropping them off no later than 9 am will provide us plenty of time to get into our morning play and keep our bodies warm.

As we are outside at all times, there are potential risks involved in children playing in these settings. Though taking risks is crucial to a child's success at outdoor school, we as teachers keep a constant close eye and set very clear rules and boundaries throughout the various areas within the park. We ask that parents support our school and their children by reinforcing our safety rules to their kids regularly. Safety rules are clearly outlined in the parent guide (received upon request).
